Description
Fine Early 1900 Brass Dining Set 1 Rice Bowl, 2 Soup Bowls (different size), 1 Spoon BangJaYuGi. These are some of the oldest Korean brassware we have seen over the years. These are heavy and they sound wonderful.
Korean brassware have been big part of daily life since Goryo dynasty to 1945 or just before the Korean war. These brassware were probably made around first quarter of 20th century.
Some of these items were hand made hence the different shapes and some with visible hand hammering mark. One soup bowl has a manufacturers marking which tells me this bowl is probably
not made at the same time as others. Early on brassware was reserved for the upper class and the nobles but during it's peak (19th century) they became available to most Koreans.
After the Korean war Koreans resorted to new and more popular materials such as stainless and plastic. Korean brassware have made a comeback in the restaurant industry with newer and lighter designs.
